My mom was getting organized this weekend and came across an old Mickey Mouse flip book her father drew when he was 9 years old. Emerson Lamb would grow up to become an artist, going to art school on the GI Bill. He always wanted to work for Disney and applied but at the time the animators also had to know how to read music so that the movements better matched. He didn’t know how to play an instrument and that story stayed with my mom so that she made sure all her kids learned an instrument. But my grandfather was able to do okay, got enough work in commercial art and advertising to support a family and even have a summer camp in the Adirondacks. I never got to know him but I have his art books and even some art supplies. Below are some of the drawings from that flip book: image image image image image image image image image
